It Just Might Work

Finally, after being so frustrated, I took Patrick to the gym. We've been going to swim in the pool and he absolutely loves it. But, when I first tried leaving him at the gym's daycare, he cried....Big time crying. He cried so hard that he made himself sick and threw up. During my water aerobics class, they came to get me. So dripping wet, I had to get out of the pool and go comfort my son. I was disappointed. I finally had a gym membership and willing to go, but my son wasn't comfortable at the daycare. After a couple of weeks, I decided to try the gym again. I talked to the staff and we came up with a plan. I am to take my son to the gym everyday until he gets comfortable with the environment. When we first walked in the doors, Patrick immediately tensed up and wanted me to hold him . He remembers this place. So began by introducing him to the daycare. After about 15 minutes, I would take Patrick swimming. And he loves to swim, but that's a different post. Any who, today, I took him and played with him in the daycare for 30 minutes. Then, I quietly and quickly went outside while he wasn't looking. About 3 minutes later, I heard the familiar cry. Oh, no, here we go again. After about 4 minutes, it was quiet. I realized they took the kids outside to play with chalk. Yes, he loves to draw with chalk. And Sarah and Sandra were so helpful in playing with him to make him comfortable. Another 30 minutes went by and I decided that it was time to get Patrick. Unfortunately, I didn't take my workout clothes, otherwise, I would have workout. But, I didn't think it was going to go well, and I didn't bring my shoes or my swimsuit. Darn, water class was happening. But, my son and his comfort level was the most important thing for me. As we tried to leave, Patrick wanted to stay. He wanted to keep playing. So, my plan is to go to the gym tomorrow and hopefully this will be the beginning of a new adventure for both of us.
